A physical engagement with painting – in the true sense of the word. A constant struggle where anger coexists and clashes with tenderness, sadness, love and happiness. The music’s loud. The player gets stuck on the same song, and after a while I’ve had enough of it. I’m looking down on the canvas, I’m walking around it, I become one with it. My painting is all focus and fluidity, but also full of contradictions – between the energy of the initial attack and the composure needed for its development, between the passion of feelings and the calm that follows it, between the violence of chaos and the gentleness of love. This is the story of my inner turmoil.

"When one looks at his artwork, one can feel that he practices a sort of free fall. This is the determining moment where everything happens, and that decisive moment continues to vibrate through Jons's paintings. Here, nothing is static; movement is everywhere." - Christian Mosar

Cercle Cité - Luxembourg

Opening : Septembre 21th 2017, 5.30pm

Exhibition : September 22th - November 5th 2017

Since its creation in 1992, the Pierre Werner Prize has been awarded to a Luxembourg or foreign artist, a member or non-member of the Cercle Artistique de Luxembourg (CAL) for all of his works exhibited at the annual show. Between retrospective and actuality, the exhibition Histoires d'art retraces and puts into context this chapter of the history of contemporary art in Luxembourg. The works of the six women and eight men who have received this distinction are now at the center of the exhibition, including Frank Jons who received it in 2008.

1535° OPEN DOORS, 10am 1o 7pm

On this occasion, Frank Jons, resident artist will open the doors of his atelier, accompanied by Samuel Levy, his special guest.

"Frank Jons is a painter and his marble-like organic and random paintings fascinated the designer Feyrouz Ashoura to such point that they decided to develop a texture together fusing both disciplines. Making the painting wearable, making clothes of art.

Following which, Frank painted on leather scraps from which Feyrouz cut out the small pieces of the dress. This became a quest of fractal symmetry, forming alltogether a new kind of armour, second skin, very flexible, yet almost machinical. The leather pieces have been assembled through beadwork, ornating the creases between the reptile mosaic".
